Tax, VAT and PAYE toolkit
Keep tax admin boring, organised and on time. This toolkit explains what to track from day one and when to involve an accountant for UAE startup decisions.
Core tax areas
Limited companies pay Corporate Tax (FTA) on taxable profits. Register after incorporation, keep accounting records and file a Company Tax Return.
Sole traders and some directors/shareholders need Self Assessment. Keep income, allowable expenses and payment-on-account dates visible.
Monitor taxable turnover monthly. VAT registration can be compulsory or voluntary; it affects pricing, invoices, cash flow and B2C competitiveness.
Register with MoHRE before paying staff. Salaries must be paid via the Wages Protection System (WPS); track end-of-service gratuity (EOSG) accruals and Emiratisation (NAFIS) targets where applicable.
Monthly finance routine
- Reconcile bank transactions and payment processors.
- Upload receipts and categorise expenses.
- Send invoices promptly and chase overdue balances.
- Update VAT threshold, payroll, Corporate Tax (FTA) and cash runway.
- Review director loan account, dividends and reimbursed expenses.
- Export management accounts and compare against forecast.
